My oh my, “The Shawshank Redemption” is a film like no other. Director Frank Darabont, who today is known for his previous work on “The Walking Dead,” and directing other movies based off of the books that were written by Stephen King. “The Shawshank Redemption” being one of them, and in my opinion, it is the best thing he’s ever done.
The film runs for a total of 142 minutes, which is long enough to keep you second-guessing yourself about whether you should sit down and watch it or not. Do you really want to give up two-and-a-half hours to watch a movie about a man in prison? Well, my answer is yes, there is not a movie out there that I would prefer to spend that length of time watching. “The Shawshank Redemption” is one of the cruelest, happiest and most satisfying movies ever made and for that, you shouldn’t give it a second thought.The story follows Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins, who is the man that has everything. He has a great job working as the vice president of a bank, he’s charming, and he has a gorgeous wife. Although his what-seems-to-be perfect life takes a dramatic turn for the worst when his wife and her lover are found dead and Andy is the main suspect in the double-homicide. The film skips most of the trial and the evidence that is found against him. Instead, our story practically begins with his testimony, where he pleads not-guilty and explains his dubious scenario. Andy is found guilty, and the judge orders him to serve a two-life sentence in Shawshank prison. Thus, our redemption begins.
